Prof. Dr. Benno Brinkhaus is working in the field of Complementary and Integrative Medicine (CIM) at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin since 2001. Since 2010 he is Professor of Naturopathy at the Charité faculty. He and his research group are investigating the efficacy and effectiveness, safety and costs of naturopathy and other CIM methods with the aim of integrating positively evaluated procedures into Integrative medicine, thus contributing to improving patient care in general.

The main research topics are methods of naturopathy, Chinese medicine, in particular acupuncture, osteopathy and mind-body medicine for example meditations, hypnosis, and mindful walking. Research methods are in particular clinical and epidemiological studies, but also qualitative research studies. Many projects are being worked on with other national and international cooperation partners. The professorship of Prof. Brinkhaus is funded in the second funding period (2015-2019) by the Kneipp Bund e.V., the health insurance fund BKK 24, the Committee of Natural Medicine Research (KFN) e.V., the Software AG Foundation, Immanuel Diakonie GmbH and the city of Bad Wörishofen. The research projects of his team were funded by the DFG, the BMBF, the EU and other foundations.
