The Institute's quality management system has been in operation for a number of years now, ensuring robust and reliable results. The system has been refined with each passing year and was awarded DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 certification in October 2005. Since 2002, the institute's quality management group has been responsible for proposals to improve collaboration, communication, job satisfaction, error avoidance, process efficiency, and further education. The group is comprised of five to twelve scientists and non-scientists from a broad range of disciplines.
In early 2003, the institute adopted a new and comprehensive quality management handbook. By specifying standard procedures for internal administration, teaching, and research, the handbook has helped streamline operating processes and thus improve workflow. The guidelines listed in the handbook represent minimum standards and are binding.
In October 2014, the institute's DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 accreditation was renewed. In addition, quality management procedures at the institute have been expanded to include regular internal audits, which serve to ensure the quality of research activities and facilitate communication and the exchange of ideas between all staff members, both within and between project groups.
All of the institute's employees take part in regular further training and education, both on an in-house and external basis. Recent publications are presented and discussed in a weekly Journal Club, and the results of studies and projects are discussed together with cooperation partners as invited guests. The Institute also takes advantage of the broad range of continuing education courses offered by the Charité subsidiary GDL, by Charité's Coordinating Centre for Clinical Studies, and by external partners.
In October 2020 the accreditation according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 was successfully completed.
